Trojans in AppGallery
Hundreds of mobile games and apps have been infected with Trojans, a virus that can track down users’ personal information. More than 9 million people are said to have been affected. Russian security experts have discovered that there are numerous games that contain a Trojan horse. The malware is designed to extract personal information. The infected app requests access to call settings and other details. Among other things, the location, settings, parameters and the telephone number can be traced in this way.
According to the researchers, malware was found in 190 games. The categories range from puzzle games to simulation games and from card games to first-person shooters. More than 9.3 million people are said to have downloaded and installed the apps. The affected applications were immediately removed from the AppGallery by Huawei after the investigation.
The Huawei AppGallery was realized as an alternative to the Google Play Store. On Huawei devices without Google services, the AppGallery is even the only way to download an app or game via the official route.
