Rogue DHL app in circulation

Be careful if you receive a message from a package that is on its way to you. It may just be that this is a link to a rogue variant of the original DHL app. This application can be downloaded after clicking the link. However, this is not the official DHL app, but an app that only aims to extract data.

The Scammed program writes about this new FluBot malware that can make life difficult for Android users. The malware can make copies of apps such as internet banking, and thus forward personal data to malicious parties. It can also watch in real time what is happening on the screen of your smartphone (or tablet), make calls and send text messages. In addition, it can copy contacts, click on something on your behalf, and change text input.

The malware has been discovered in the Netherlands since the beginning of this month, after earlier warnings by the government services in Germany and Great Britain. Not only is the malware shrouded in DHL’s corporate identity, but there are also similar stories about a rogue app masquerading as a UPS app.

Good to know is that the official DHL app can simply be downloaded from the Play Store. In addition, it is advisable to never download applications outside of the Google Play Store to avoid the chance of these kinds of consequences.
