Use it now on five devices at the same time – with high risk

Many have been waiting for this day. From now on, selected WhatsApp users can use the messenger on several devices at the same time, even when the mobile phone is no longer connected to the Internet. But that is exactly what is now becoming a major risk.

WhatsApp unlocks multi-device support in beta testing

We have all been waiting for this one function for WhatsApp for years. With other messengers, it is standard that you with one account can use several devices such as smartphones, tablets and PCs at the same time. WhatsApp was never designed for this and had to be completely rebuilt for this purpose. But today is the big day when multi-device support starts – at least for beta testers. As WhatsApp explains in its help section (watch on WhatsApp), you can now register for the test and try out the function. It works like this:

  1. You have to use the beta version of WhatsApp for Android or iOS.
  2. Installs the latest update via the respective app store.
  3. Open WhatsApp and go to the three points In the right upper corner.
  4. Chooses Linked devices.
  5. There are now two options:
    • If only Use WhatsApp on other devices appears, you have not yet been chosen.
    • On the other hand, there is an additional point Multi-device beta on, you can register.
  6. If the latter is the case, you have to Join multi-device beta tests and you can then log in with multiple devices via one smartphone.

Only one smartphone is currently supported. So you cannot set up your WhatsApp number on multiple phones at the same time. All new devices must be registered via the mobile phone. If you don’t use your cell phone for 14 days, you will all connections cut and you have to recreate them.

In this Video we introduce you to the best alternatives from WhatsApp:

What are the benefits of WhatsApp’s multi-device support?

WhatsApp did it all Messages synced across devices and safety is not endangered. So if you first chat on your mobile phone and then switch to the tablet, all your messages will appear there and so on. Hopefully, with the final version, WhatsApp will also bring out native apps for tablets, smartwatches and the PC so that this function can be used to the full.

Where is the greatest risk of the new WhatsApp function?

If you log into WhatsApp on other devices using your smartphone, the connection is no longer automatically cut – as is the case with WhatsApp Web. Anyone who then uses the second, third or fourth device on which you are logged in with WhatsApp, can access all of your private messages. If you use this WhatsApp function, you should make sure that no one else can access the other devices or that you always log out. Also activates the PIN in WhatsApp, although this is only queried irregularly.
