Update should inform about booster vaccinations

A new update of the Corona warning app plans in advance for possible booster vaccinations and offers the option of saving and printing the vaccination certificate as a PDF.

Vaccination certificate, test result, risk encounter: According to the federal government, over 34 million people in Germany use the Corona warning app. It is now getting an update to version 2.10 – and should be able to inform users about the need for a booster vaccination in the future, among other things, if this is specified. The update is to be rolled out since Wednesday, iOS users can also install the latest version manually from the app store.

There are still no regulations on whether and when people should have their vaccination against Covid 19 refreshed, but the app is obviously already planning corresponding recommendations in its update, which may be made in the future. Since the last update to version 2.9, people who have already received a booster vaccination can enter it in the app. In the future, a text box under the vaccination certificate will display the “current status of the vaccination status”, it says in one Report from the federal government and on the Blog about the app. This box would also contain information on the booster vaccination and the corresponding requirements, and users also receive a push notification that there is news in the app.

In addition, all news about the certificates would in future be indicated by a red point.

The update to version 2.10 also brings another feature to the Corona warning app, which is not only built in as a precaution, but can also be used directly: The individual vaccination certificate can now be saved as a PDF using a “View print version” button send such and print out on paper. The function is only available for vaccination certificates that were issued in Germany and can be particularly useful, for example, if the original paper proof from a pharmacy or vaccination center is missing.

If you use iOS, you can click on “More” and then “Show print version” in the detailed view of the relevant certificate, with Android you can select “Show print version” under the three points in the top right corner.

Overall, the Corona warning app is currently updated every 14 days and adapted to the pandemic, and six more updates are planned by the end of the year, according to the federal government. Version 2.11 is intended to be a Tech blogger according to, for example, revisions to the QR scanner and the contact diary.
