Unusual: he invents a LEGO sorter … made of LEGO, with AI and a Raspberry Pi

Daniel West holds the winning combo: Lego, a Raspberry Pi and AI algorithms, for a crazy project of a LEGO parts sorter… made of LEGO! TheUniversal Lego Sorter is thus able to recognize each of the LEGO pieces before placing them in one of the 18 bins (one bin per type of part). Amazing!

In addition to this, you will need to know more about it.

The sorter itself is made up of 10,000 LEGO parts, but the essential is of course provided by several electronic components, namely the Raspberry Pi photo module (input part scan), a Raspberry Pi 3 B + for analysis pictures, 6 LEGO motors and 9 servomotors (again controlled by the Raspberry Pi).

In addition to this, you will need to know more about it.

Visual analysis is provided by an AI algorithm of type machine learning which proves to be able to recognize and sort parts including those which it has never scanned before. The 25-year-old engineer took no less than three years to build this high-tech… and ultra-geek sorter!
