Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection PS5 review

Relive two PS4 adventures from Uncharted on PlayStation 5 with the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, time for a review!

When you say PlayStation, you say Uncharted. Naughty Dog’s fantastic adventure series has proven itself as a bestseller on Sony’s consoles for years. With Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection you get the chance to relive two adventures on the PlayStation 5 as a remaster, we went to work with it for a review.

The Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection includes Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Both The Lost Legacy (2017) and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (2016) have been polished up in this remaster. If you have already bought the game on the PS4 in the past, you can upgrade for 10 euros. If you have not played both games, you can purchase Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection separately with a suggested retail price of € 49.99 on the PlayStation 5. It is possible to transfer your old save file from the PS4 to the PS5, so that all progress achieved is taken into account.

As a long-term PlayStation owner, I have of course already played Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. But not The Lost Legacy yet. This review of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on the Playstation 5 was therefore the perfect excuse to play the games (again).

The remaster brings a number of innovations with it. Firstly, loading times are as good as gone, which plays nicely. In addition, the haptic feedback of the DualSense controller works with this remaster. Furthermore, the games have been polished to 4k and 30 fps in Fidelity Mode and there is support for 3D audio. There is also a Performance Mode, in which you play the games at 60 fps in 4k quality, via an upscaling from 1440p. Third, you have Performance+ Mode. This is 120 fps at 1080p. By default, the settings are set to Fidelity Mode. I mostly played the game in this mode. The graphic splendor was my preference over flowing movements. There is something to be said for both.

Conclusion

But the big question is, should you buy Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on the PlayStation 5 based on this review? I cannot give a simple answer to that. It just depends as far as I’m concerned. I like the graphical progress, but not groundbreaking. Uncharted 4 in particular was already groundbreakingly beautiful on the PS4 at the time. The PS5 takes it one step further, but don’t let that make you fall open again. In my opinion, the differences are too small for that. You can clearly see that this is basically a PS4 game. This remaster is certainly not as beautiful as a Spider-Man: Miles Morales. And you can’t expect that from a remaster either.

If you’ve never played Uncharted: The Lost Legacy of A Thief’s End, I say wholeheartedly: buy it! You must have played these Uncharted games once if you have a PS5. Also in 2022 these, basically, older games still play wonderfully. The environment, the gameplay, the storyline. It stands like a house. I immediately got a craving for the Uncharted movie that comes out later this year. Goal accomplished, as far as this reissue is concerned. If you’ve already played the games on a PS4, I personally wouldn’t do the upgrade. Especially if you don’t have a 4k OLED TV to actually project all these improvements to the gaming experience. Even if it’s only a tenner. Only if you really feel like reliving the games again. It’s also good to know that there are no new trophies with this re-release.

Pros

  • Affordable upgrade if you already have the games
  • And even if you don’t have the games it’s a good deal!
  • Wonderful and unique game experience of Uncharted at PS5 level

Negatives

  • Basically a PS4 game and you notice that graphically
  • If you’ve already played the games once, this repetition in 4k, among other things, doesn’t add much

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves is out January 28 for PlayStation 5
