Threema takes Signal and Telegram to her chest to warn of dangers

WhatsApp has come under massive criticism because of the new terms of use that everyone must agree to in order to continue using Messenger. The competitors in the form of Threema, Signal and Telegram are therefore enjoying great popularity. But only a messenger should really be safe – at least that’s what they say.

Threema: We have the only secure messenger

If you no longer want to use WhatsApp, you have enough choice. With Threema, Signal and Telegram, there are three major alternatives to choose from, which, according to their own statements, deal with data protection much better than WhatsApp. Elon Musk promoted Signal. Since then, registrations with the messenger have exploded. It still is signal really safer than WhatsApp? The app is praised for its encryption. However, you have to provide personal data such as your telephone number and can thus be identified. Since it is a US company, it is subject to the “CLOUD Act” and must give US authorities access to the data. Signal seems to be the best compromise for many.

Telegram has enjoyed brisk visitors since the Corona crisis. Large groups are formed there and information is shared. Users feel safe, but actually aren’t. The encryption of chats is not activated at the factory. Messages are also permanently stored on a server, where the provider from Russia can read everything. Telegram will soon also use this data for advertising, the Russian founder recently confirmed. Now that there are more and more users, the company finally wants to earn money from it.

Threema from Switzerland, however, was developed with a focus on security from the start. You don’t need an email address or a phone number to use the messenger. Access to the users’ address book is not necessary. So you stay anonymous and don’t provide any data from other users. The messenger is completely encrypted and only data is generated that is absolutely necessary for operation. This means that nobody can read along. The disadvantage? Threema costs something.

Signal and Telegram are alternatives to WhatsApp, but if you really want a safe alternative, you inevitably have to resort to Threema. In the end you will use the messenger where you have the most contacts. In addition, many shy away from having to pay for a messenger.
