‘Three new Motorola smartwatches on the way, running on Wear OS’

Motorola was the very first manufacturer to have its own Wear OS smartwatch. It shouldn’t take long – the disappointing success of Android Wear caused Motorola to leave the wearables market. However, a Moto licensee created hope in 2019 with his Moto 360. That hopes will continue into 2021, with three Moto watches currently being developed.

Motorola smartwatches

After the breakdown of the smartwatch division within Motorola, a Canadian company decided in 2019 that it was time for a new watch under the Moto brand name. eBuyNow released the Moto 360 at the end of 2019, a watch that brought many design elements from the original Motorola smartwatches. The story does not end there, according to a presentation by CE Brands Inc. has given to investors – a total of three smartwatches are on the product roadmap in the coming year.

The first watch eBuyNow plans to release in 2021 is the Moto G smartwatch, which is slated to launch in June. One month later, the company wants to introduce the Moto Watch and One. Regarding the design of the Moto G, we see many similarities with the Moto 360. The rotating crown on the right side is missing, which has been replaced on the Moto G by two flat buttons. The housing will also be given a different color, the product photos show the watch in gray.

Moto Watch and Moto One

With the Moto Watch and One, the licensee is moving in a different direction. The Moto Watch may have a rectangular screen, making the design resemble that of the Apple Watch. On the right side of the watch you can find one button for operating it. As far as the design is concerned, the Moto Watch is in black at the investor presentation, it is unknown whether the watch will be available in other colors.

Unlike the Moto Watch, the Moto One does include a round screen. At the same time, the watch seems to be more luxurious than the Moto G smartwatch, so it is possible that the Moto One will be the most expensive watch in the Moto lineup of eBuyNow. Just like on the Moto G, we find two buttons for operation on the One on the right side. The watch is in silver on the product photos, with a black watch strap.

EBuyNow partners

Detailed specifications of the upcoming watches have not yet been leaked. However, CE Brands did report in the investor presentation that Google and Qualcomm are important eBuyNow partners. This presumably indicates that eBuyNow will run the Moto smartwatches on Wear OS and there is some certainty that Qualcomm will supply its Snapdragon Wear chipsets for that.

Which chipsets will be used depends on the prices of the watches. It is expected that the Moto G smartwatch will be positioned in the lower segment and will use the Wear 3100 chipset, while the Moto One probably contains the more expensive Wear 4100 chipset. Do you think these expectations are correct, or do you see it differently? Let us know in the comments below the article.
