This makes stopping charging less fun

Tesla drivers are in for an unpleasant surprise at the charging station: prices are rising. The American company’s e-cars are not alone in this. But that does not explain why the premium is paid so much.

New prices on the Supercharger: Charging is becoming more expensive for Tesla drivers

Tesla drivers are spoiled when it comes to charging their electric cars. For example, no provider can offer a comparably well-developed fast charging network. But this service costs and the prices are currently rising: Recently, the costs in Germany are per kilowatt hour rose from 37 cents in May to 40 cents at present (Source: Golem). This is not yet a big jump in price, but calculated on a single charge it is definitely noticeable.

What is really surprising, however, is that Tesla has no reason, at least in terms of German electricity prices, to raise prices so significantly. Since the beginning of the year, the electric car pioneer has set and readjusted the price screw several times – always upwards. It started in January at 35 cents. In 2021 it is already due Plus of 12.5 percent in the books.

According to the Federal Association of Energy and Water Management, the average electricity price in Germany will rise from 31.81 cents in 2020 to 31.94 cents per kWh this year – and is therefore not a comparison to the price development at the charging station.

This has long been not just limited to Tesla with its superchargers. For example, charging stations operated by EnBW can cost up to 49 cents (source: ADAC). Other providers are also raising prices. Charging the e-car is still significantly cheaper than refueling, but at least the times when you drive to the charging station without any worries are taking a dampening effect.

Except for Tesla: You can see what multibillionaire Elon Musk does his money with in the Video:

Tesla electricity is still comparatively cheap

But what could be the reason for the price increase at Tesla? Just recently, Tesla boss Elon Musk announced that the Supercharger would be released for electric cars from other brands this year. In order to prevent large rushes and overloads, one also thinks about to raise prices at peak times.

A surcharge for other e-car brands is quite conceivable. It is unclear whether Tesla will now raise prices overall in order to make the difference less noticeable later. But one thing is certain: Tesla is charging currently still rather cheap – which makes it all the more annoying when prices go up.
