This is how you back up memory statuses in the cloud
With the “Nintendo Switch Online” service, it is possible to save the save states of most Switch games in the cloud. Here at GIGA, we’ll show you exactly how this works and what you have to pay attention to.

Switch-Cloud-Saves – Info & Conditions
The save states of your Switch games are exclusively on the system memory on the console – regardless of whether you own the game digitally or on a card. There is no way to save the saved data on the SD card or a USB stick.
With the save data cloud there is a possibility to store your scores on Nintendo’s servers. So you are on the safe side if the switch “lands badly” and breaks or is stolen.
The conditions:
- In order to be able to use the storage data cloud, you need a membership for the paid one Nintendo Switch online service (19.99 euros per year).
- Not all titles will support the backup of the scores in the cloud. For example, Splatoon 2 and the Pokémon Let’s Go titles are unsupported titles. You can find the reason for this here.
- If you do not extend the Nintendo Switch online service, the data stored in the cloud can no longer be accessed and will be deleted after 6 months.
Manually back up saved data in the cloud
By default, the saved games are automatically uploaded to Nintendo’s servers when you have completed the Switch Online Service. If you have deactivated the function under “Data management” in the settings, want to be on the safe side or if an error has occurred, you can also save your current storage status manually in the cloud. The process is the same on the regular Nintendo Switch, the Switch Lite and the OLED model:
- Starts the switch and marks the gamewhose current save status you want to load into the cloud.
- Press the Minus or plus button on the controller to get the Options to open.
- in the Selection menu you navigate to “Storage data cloud”.
- There are now two options, depending on whether there is no data on the server or an error has occurred.
- “No backup created”: In this case you just choose your account and expresses the A buttonto create a backup.
- “An error has occurred”: Choose that profile out. Checks whether the Save data on the console newer are than on the server. If so, choose “Create storage data backup” and then “Overwrite saved data on the server” out.
- “No backup created”: In this case you just choose your account and expresses the A buttonto create a backup.
- The Nintendo Switch should now save the current memory status in the cloud.
