Kate never negotiates with her children – even when it causes awkward moments at home. “This prevents you from getting into lengthy discussions with your child. If I say no, they know it’s no. And I think that’s an important part of their development: they have to learn how far they can go.”

But whether that means that Kate is always strict about this? Certainly not. “I give my children a lot of room to make mistakes. They can always contact me, but I have the last word. And that way they know exactly where they stand.”
