This foldable house is habitable in a day for $ 50,000

The way we build new buildings has also changed a lot in recent years. This is also necessary, considering that we must increasingly also take climate change into account. On the one hand, houses should be able to cope with the increasing stresses caused by heat and storms, on the other hand, it is necessary to reduce emissions during construction. In addition to individual houses and prefabricated houses, houses from the 3D printer have also been added for some time.

Another interesting way of building is now coming from the United States: foldable houses. What doesn’t sound really convincing at first, could become everyday life in the future. Because the new construction method has many advantages and could make building a house affordable for a large number of people. If you believe rumors, then even Tesla CEO Elon Musk is the proud owner of such a home.

The first model from Boxabl is called “Casita” and is around 37 square meters in size and is made of steel, concrete and EPS foam for insulation. As soon as the building (already fully assembled) leaves the factory, it can be brought to its destination on a classic car trailer and is simply unfolded there. The installation should take a maximum of one day (if the power and sewer connections are already in place).

The first big advantage of the foldable house is the price: At 49,500 dollars, the small house is affordable, and the ease of transport means that delivery costs are comparatively low. The kitchen and bathroom are already built in, the rest of the building can be furnished individually. The price does not include the property, external connections and any necessary foundation. Because “Casita” can only be set up on level surfaces.

Depending on the location, the future homeowner must therefore expect additional costs. Boxabl would like to greatly scale the largely automated production of its own homes. A house should be built in 90 minutes, 3,600 houses could be built and delivered every year. And that with reliable protection against nature and vermin.

Own opinion:

It is exciting to see to what extent the way we build will change over the next few years. Boxabl provides an interesting concept that can represent a real alternative to the prefabricated house for one or the other, now it remains to be seen how the foldable house will fare in the next few years.
