This cell phone shines the strongest
And the Red Lantern goes to… Motorola. According to the latest study by the Federal Office for Radiation Protection, a smartphone from the traditional brand has the highest SAR value. Two well-known manufacturers are completely missing in the ranking.
It is common knowledge that Germans are afraid of radiation. In no other country are there so many scaredy-cats about nuclear power, 5G deniers or electrosmog-excited people. It is therefore not surprising that the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) keeps meticulous records of the so-called SAR value (“Specific Absorption Rate”) per kilogram, which indicates how strong the radiation intensity of individual models is.
Motorola Edge has the highest SAR value
In the current ranking, according to Statista, that’s coming Motorola Edge to a SAR value of 1.79 – and thus secures first place. Silver and bronze medals go to the Chinese manufacturers ZTE and OnePlus. The ZTE Axon 11 5G and OnePlus 6T have SAR values of 1.59 and 1.55, respectively.
Fourth place goes to the Sony Xperia XA2 Plus, which is well below the top trio with a SAR value of 1.41. Next comes the third-generation Pixel, which has a SAR of 1.39, and the Pixel 4a, which has a SAR of 1.37. The Oppo Reno 5G is on par with the Pixel 4a. 8th place goes to Sony: Xperia XZ1 Compact shines with a SAR value of 1.36.
Remarkable: Smartphones from Samsung and Apple are completely missing. The two big players in the industry apparently have comparatively low-radiation devices on offer.
How to control your smartphone usage:
Values are below the WHO limit
Important to know: The “radiation when making calls with the device on the ear” was measured, as Statista writes. And the The upper limit of the World Health Organization (WHO) is a SAR value of 2 per kilogram. The Motorola Edge, ZTE Axon 11 and Co. are still well below this threshold. According to BfS, a smartphone is considered low-radiation if it has a SAR value of 0.6 per kilogram.
