Ikea has presented an air purifier for the smart home. This can be connected to the Trådfri gateway and improve the air quality in smaller rooms. Starkvind is controlled via an app. A second model is also planned.

Ikea: New air purifier Starkvind presented

After Ikea recently added an air quality sensor to its range, it is now available own air purifier on. According to the manufacturer, this should be suitable for interiors of up to 20 square meters and noticeably improve the air there.

The air purifier can be classic or combined with other smart home products used by Ikea. In this case, a connection to the Trådfri gateway is provided and control is via the Ikea Home Smart app.

The air purifier owns five levels, but can also be operated in an automatic mode. In this case, the fan speed is adapted to the respective load with fine dust via a built-in air quality sensor.

To be added three filterswho take care of different tasks. This includes a pre-filter, a filter for removing particles and a gas filter. The pre-filter catches dust and hair, while the filter for particle removal collects around 99.5 percent of the fine dust. The gas filter in turn removes pollutants such as formaldehyde from the air.

Ikea Starkvind: stand-alone device or as a table

In addition to a stand-alone device, Ikea would also like to offer the air purifier integrated in a table. So the device is less noticeable and also serves as a Side table. For the table version, however, customers have to dig a little deeper into their pockets. In terms of color, there is a choice between white and dark brown. Ikea has opted for white and black for the floor-standing device.

Ikea gets the air purifier in October 2021 make available. The prices for Germany have not yet been commented on. In the USA, Starkvind is expected to go on sale for 129 and 189 US dollars respectively (source: Engadget).
