These topics will accompany us in 2021 – GIGA headlines

The year 2021: what will it bring? Maybe all the consoles that we pre-ordered in 2020.
You can now find out what else can come: In our GIGA Headlines annual preview.

Bye 3G: Hello 5G?

The 3G mobile network in Germany will be switched off in 2021, in the summer at Vodafone and T-Mobile, and Telefónica will follow suit at the end of the year.
Among other things, 3G frees up frequencies for the 5G network, which can finally take off in Germany. So maybe.

Above all, this means for you: If you have a cheap tariff, check whether you are really already on the 4G network.
Or: If you or one of your relatives still uses an old device like the Galaxy S3, then the internet will be noticeably slower there too. Because: If the cell phone does not support 4G, it will revert to GPRS and EDGE after the 3G shutdown.

So it will be necessary for some to buy a new smartphone this year.

Samsung Galaxy A51

So why not jump straight onto the latest hype train: foldables.

Samsung’s foldable future

According to some reports, Samsung is planning to introduce the Galaxy S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra as well as the introduction of a cheaper “Galaxy Z Fold Lite”.
The Fold Lite is said to have a few fewer features than the large Galaxy Fold, but it costs just under 1,000 euros, making it as expensive as the other flagship smartphones.
A performance is expected at the beginning of the year. So there is something to look forward to.

The game highlights 2021

Just as you look forward to the game highlights of the year.
Horizon Forbidden West, for example, the successor to Horizon Zero Dawn, announced for the second half of the year for the PS5 and PS4.
Hitman 3 will be launched a little earlier. The stealth sandbox from the developer IO Interactive will be released on January 20th for current and last-gen consoles as well as PC and marks the end of the new Hitman trilogy.
Or Halo Infinite, the newest title in the Halo series, slated to hit Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC this fall.

You may not even have to own a good gaming PC this year: Microsoft is planning to release the streaming service “Project xCloud” for PCs and in the browser on iOS.

Apple M1: That brings 2021

And this year we will again talk about Apple’s M1 processors: Because there are still some devices with the new technology awaiting us.

Among other things, an iMac with slightly “drilled out” M1 specs is to come onto the market: With 16 CPU and additional 16 or 32 GPU cores.
And even a new Mac Pro is in the room. It could even have a 32-core chip.
An idea this year is considered likely, but whether the Mac Pro will be available this year has not yet been determined.
