These smartphones will no longer receive updates
OnePlus has announced the end of updates for two smartphones. Software support for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T is ending, and both phones will no longer receive any updates. The step may not come as a surprise, but the OnePlus 6T in particular leaves a bitter aftertaste.

If you still have a OnePlus 6 or OnePlus 6T in your pocket, you should start looking for a replacement. Both smartphones have now reached their “EOL”, i.e. the end of their lifespan. The Chinese manufacturer lets the Software support has expired and will no longer provide updates for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T (Source: OnePlus forum). So the devices remain on OxygenOS 11, which is based on Android 11. There will no longer be an update to Android 12, nor will there be any security updates.
“After three major Android updates and more than three years of general updates,” says a OnePlus employee in the manufacturer forum, “it is now time to end this chapter.” OnePlus would like to thank the community, without which support would not have been possible would. The manufacturer also sends a special thank you to the beta testers.
Of course, the same applies to software updates: everything is relative. Compared to the Realme Pad, which doesn’t even get a single Android update, OnePlus has done well on the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T. Since their release in 2018, OnePlus smartphones have received three major Android updates and countless security updates. The now announced end of updates for the two devices could be accepted with a shrug of the shoulders – business as usual in the Android world, one might think.

on the other hand Manufacturers like Apple and, more recently, Samsung are showing how things can be done differently. What an outcry would there be if Apple ended software support for the iPhone Xs – unimaginable. Just like the OnePlus 6T, it was launched at the end of 2018 and should well receive the next two or even three iOS updates.
After all, OnePlus is capable of learning: In July of last year, the group announced that to give new OnePlus models three major Android updates and four years of security updates in the future. The innovation will take effect for the first time in the OnePlus 8 series from 2020.
