These Macs will not be forgotten

Apple still has a heart for owners of an Intel Mac. The manufacturer is turning around on one point in particular and is delighting users with a new feature – previously only intended for M1 Macs.

Owners of an Intel Mac will of course also receive the upcoming update to macOS 12 Monterey, but all functions are unfortunately not available. If Apple has its way, users with an Intel chip will have to forego the new 3D globe in Apple’s map app or numerous FaceTime innovations – Intel Macs are simply “downgraded” and placed in the “second class” offset.

Apple improves on macOS 12 Monterey: Live Text also for Intel Macs

Actually, the new one should also “Live Text” feature only Macs with Apple’s own processor (M1) are available. However, Apple probably went back and forth and integrated the useful function with the latest preview version (Beta 4) in macOS 12 Monterey for Intel Macs (source: Rene Ritchie).

A welcome turn and a nice move from Apple, the latest step at least contributes something to maintaining the value of the “old” Intel Macs – MacBooks, iMacs and Co. do not end up entirely on the sidelines. But what else was “Live Text”?

Last but not least, Live Text is also available on the iPhone. That reveals what you can do with it Video:

What do you do with “Live Text”?

In short, one intelligent type of text recognition directly within images. In this way, users can interact with the text on images. Telephone numbers are recognized and can be called, image texts can be selected, cut out and copied. For example, if you have blackboard pictures from school, you no longer have to spend a lot of time copying them, but can process them directly as text – ingenious.

For Apple, “Live Text” is not an exclusive Mac feature, it is important across the systems. This is why it can also be found in iOS 15 on the iPhone and iPadOS 15 on the iPad. All new operating systems are still in development at Apple, but can be tried out in advance for free within the public beta. The final versions are expected to be released in early autumn, i.e. from September.
