these iOS 15 rumors were completely wrong

We read many rumors about iOS 15 for months. Now that Apple has officially unveiled the new software version, it’s time to look back. Which rumors were completely wrong?

Read on after the ad.

These iOS 15 rumors weren’t true

Rumors are of course very nice. They give a nice indication of what the future holds and we can laugh about it if they are wrong. Here’s our rundown of iOS 15 rumors that turned out to be untrue.

1. A new control panel

At the beginning of April we read that iOS 15 would get a new Control Center. Details were missing, but the settings and shortcuts menu was supposed to resemble that of macOS 11 (Big Sur). While Apple did make some minor changes, this prediction didn’t come true. Basically, iOS 15 changes little to the Control Center on the iPhone and iPad.

2. Interactive Widgets

With iOS 14, Apple finally introduced widgets: a kind of larger app icons that show information from the app in question. Several concepts showed how to make these widgets interactive in iOS 15. Then you could perform a task in the app without actually opening it. For example, consider a Phone widget with shortcuts for certain contacts.

Unfortunately peanut butter: Apple does improve the widgets for iPadOS 15, but they don’t become interactive. We will probably have to look at static widgets for at least another year. That’s especially unfortunate for apps like the calculator. It would of course be very useful if you could calculate a sum directly on your home screen.

3. Food Tracking

Anonymous sources are better taken with a grain of salt. Writer Connor Jewiss didn’t. He shared the rumor that iOS 15 would have a Food Tracking feature. This allowed users to enter their meals and see how many calories they are getting. Sounds nice, but it didn’t make sense. Apple is updating the Health app in iOS 15, but Food Tracking is not part of it.

4. No support for iPhone 6S (Plus) and iPhone SE?

The rumor that the iPhone 6S wouldn’t get an update to iOS 15 actually seemed pretty logical. After all, the device already appeared in 2015 and is no longer the fastest. The iPhone 6S Plus and the first iPhone SE would also get stuck on iOS 14. All these devices run on the A9 chip.

However, Apple will continue to support the aging iPhones for at least another year. So this fall, owners can just update and take advantage of the big and small new features in iOS 15.

This is what you need to know about iOS 15

Many rumors about iOS 15 turned out to be true. For example, the notifications become a lot smarter and Apple FaceTime gives a major update. Thanks to SharePlay, you can watch a movie with friends at the same time.

Also, iOS 15 adds some new features for AirPods users. For example, the earplugs will soon be able to read your shopping list when you walk through the supermarket.
