These are the nicest and most useful things Siri can do for you

Siri’s birthday: Apple’s smart assistant is 10 years old. What can you do with Siri now?

October 4, 2011. Apple fanatics will probably all be ready at their computers by this time. Apple is going to reveal the successor to the well-received iPhone 4, so it makes sense that this successor should make an impression.

iPhone 4S

That was exactly ten years ago and on the face of it, the iPhone 4S that was unveiled wasn’t a major revolution at all. However, Apple has done a lot under the glass housing and the software has also been improved. In addition to one major feature that would still be prominently present on your iPhone ten years later.

Siri

That’s Siri, of course. Siri was announced as the flagship iPhone 4S. Phil Schiller made the announcement, announcing it appropriately: “this is really cool.” And it was also very cool. Your phone can take over tasks through your voice and make your life a little easier. Every iPhone user has probably used Siri a number of times by now, if only to give it a try.

That’s why we thought it would be fun to take a look at some nice features that Siri offers to iPhone users. We’re not going to claim that you didn’t already know this, but maybe it will help you. A tip: these features work best if you have ‘Hey Siri’ activated, so that you don’t have to touch your phone but just say “hey Siri!” can call.

Set timers and alarms

You want to go to sleep and suddenly realize that you have not set your alarm. Or you are in the kitchen and need something with your greasy fingers to set a timer. No problem, just say ‘hey Siri’ and add that you want to set an alarm or timer for x number of minutes or a certain amount of time.

Add notes

You can also keep a kind of diary with Siri. What if you are musing to yourself in the car or another place where you are not allowed to have your attention on your smartphone and suddenly think: I have to write this down! Siri can easily create a new note for you and everything you say will be noted. By notes, not by Apple. No worries.

Virtually all Apple apps

Clock affairs and notes are perhaps a bit of things that the undersigned often does and therefore highlights, because you can actually control things with Siri with any app that is built into iOS. Quickly go to your debit card to pay with Apple Pay, control your home in Apple Home, check the weather or quickly enter a location in the navigation, it’s all possible with Siri. From large to small tasks, you can even ask to turn on your flashlight. Apart from the fact that you only need that if you are already holding the phone and the shortcut key is on your home screen.

iOS 15 on your iPhone 13 is causing problems with CarPlay

A special mention to Siri in Apple CarPlay, as Siri might be essential there. After all, CarPlay is built in such a way that you stay away from it for detailed tasks, but you can, for example, set your navigation with Siri and listen to messages and even answer by dictation with Siri. Some cars even have a separate button on the steering wheel that acts as a Siri button when CarPlay is active.

Non apple apps

Apple can of course easily respond to Siri on their own apps, but integration with other major apps is also becoming more common. You can now send someone a message and specifically indicate that it has to be done via WhatsApp. If you want a quick lookup who was the first US president, ask and it will be googled in a heartbeat. There are of course a lot of apps where Siri can’t perform tasks for you, but you can ask Siri for almost any app to open it. Then you don’t have to look for an accident in all your menus.

Small tasks

There is also a wide range of tasks that Siri just does for you. Or you want to quickly convert one kilometer to one mile or what the current exchange rate of the dollar is against the euro for foreign payments. Want to play a dice game but you don’t have any dice? Siri can act as a dice and you get a random number. You can even ask for two dice. Yahtzee fanatics may find it less useful, because that’s where the limit lies.

(un)fun

Finally, what probably everyone has asked Siri at some point. Apple has tried to add some (underpants) humor in some situations. Ask Siri to tell a joke and something like this happens:

Siri

Siri can also beatbox, for example, or ask if he can sing a song. Also questions ‘who is the best assistant’ can end up with funny answers. If you’re really bored, you can have a full conversation with Siri. Who are we to judge.
