Netflix is chock full of good series and movies. That is why it is sometimes not easy to make a choice for an evening of viewing pleasure. Don’t worry: Netflix recently made a top 10 with the most popular series and movies. Time to binge watch again!

The most popular movies and series on Netflix
During the 2021 Code Conference, Ted Sarandos (of Netflix) was interviewed by Kara Swisher. During this interview, he told, among other things, which exclusive films and series (Netflix original) are the most popular on the streaming service.
The top 10 most popular movies on Netflix are:
- bird box
- Extraction
- The Irishman
- The Kissing Booth 2
- 6 Underground
- Spenser Confidential
- Enola Holmes
- Army of the Dead
- The Old Guard
- Murder Mystery
These numbers are based on the total number of viewing hours during the first four weeks that the title is on the streaming service.

What is a Netflix Original?
When you’re browsing Netflix, you’ll see “Netflix Original” on more and more videos. But what exactly is a Netflix Original?
You may have the suspicion that it is only movies and series that are specially made for Netflix. But that’s not quite true. In an interview, Ted Sarandos said they use the word “Original” to indicate that the content (in that country) is exclusive to Netflix.
Sharing Netflix accounts: increasingly difficult
When you have a subscription to Netflix, all these films and series can be viewed. Officially, you can only use the same account within your household. It does not matter whether you watch on iPhone, iPad or on television. However, accounts have been shared with friends and family members for years. That is why Netflix has been working for some time to prevent account sharing.
Verify account
Recently, some viewers who shared an account were notified that multiple families are using the account. You were then asked to join or verify your account. After clicking verify, the (real) owner of the account received a code that you have to enter in Netflix.
The figures also show that Netflix keeps a close eye on how many accounts watch a movie. During Code Conference, Netflix didn’t just show the number of hours a movie or series was watched. A top 10 with the number of accounts that watched a movie or series was also revealed.
