Apparently, 5,000 mAh is not enough: The Sony Xperia 1 IV, which is not exactly cheap, simply failed in an extensive battery analysis by DxOMark. The cell phone gives up after only a few hours in the WLAN, according to the surprising conclusion. In the end it was only enough for 91st place out of 96.

Sony Xperia 1 IV with bad battery result

For its Xperia 1 IV, which was released in June 2022, Sony would like to have the proud sum of 1,399.00 euros in the official store. At such a high price, customers should actually expect a real top smartphone be able. However, the quite impressive specifications of the smartphone are deceptive, according to the experts from DxOMark after an extensive battery test.

The Sony Xperia 1 IV performed poorly in the analysis. More precisely it has only enough for the 91st place in the leaderboard – with a total of 96 tested smartphones (source: DxOMark). Although the battery has been increased from 4,500 to 5,000 mAh compared to its predecessor, the runtime in everyday use is disappointing.

According to the testers, the phone holds up just seven hours of surfing in the WLAN networkbefore it has to be plugged in again. For comparison: The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has twice as long a runtime with one battery charge. Even with the iPhone 12 Mini and its much smaller battery (2,227 mAh) from 2020, the Sony Xperia 1 IV can’t seem to compete.

Xperia 1 IV: Strong resolution, bad battery

The Sony flagship has an OLED display that boasts a strong 4K resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The 3840×1644 pixels in particular and the fact that the refresh rate is not automatically reduced are likely responsible for the bad position compared to be. Other manufacturers often rely on LTPO AMOLED displays, which use a flexible value between 1 and 120 Hz depending on how the cell phone is used.
