The well-known statues of Android versions are gone

The well-known statues of Android versions have been removed from Google’s headquarters in the United States. Until the release of Android 10, Google placed a new statue every year in the garden near its office as a symbol for the new Android version.

Android statues gone

Anyone who has been following Android news for a long time will probably be aware of Google’s remarkable tradition of placing statues with the appearance of new Android versions. From Android Cupcake (1.5) to Android Pie (9.0), a new statue appeared every year in Google’s garden in Mountain View in the United States.

Android Authority has now discovered based on reviews in Google Maps that all statues have been removed. “It is a barren piece of land. All images have been removed. It is only a piece of land,” says one of the reviewers who visited the place.

Why are they gone?

Google has not provided an exact cause for the removal of the images. One possibility is that they will be cleaned and restored. Previously, visitors wrote in Maps that the images are poorly maintained. Some are now more than a decade old.

Although there is of course also the possibility that Google will remove the images from the Google Campus for good. After all, the company has stopped naming Android versions after sweet desserts since the release of Android 10. Yet developers still use the dessert names internally and you can discover that in the test versions of Android, such as in the developers previews of Android 13 in which the name ‘Tiramisu’ pops up in several places.

Have you ever been able to see the Android images in the United States. Maybe you regret that they were taken away or that Google has stopped honoring delicious desserts with its Android versions? Let us know in the comments at the bottom of this article.
