The watch is not enough. Huami is preparing the smallest MRI

A huge and also very heavy diagnostic device with a bed and a circular hole in the middle, normally occupying one or two hospital rooms. The patient lies down and the doctor looks at the generated results on the monitor. You are probably guessing correctly, the device is the so-called magnetic resonance imaging or MRI, which you may know not only from the hospital, but perhaps from every doctoral series. If you ask why we write about it in our Android World, then the answer is Huami.

The manufacturer of the very popular series of smart watches and bracelets Amazfit presented its own MRI, among other technologies, at its recent conference. And one that is supposed to be the smallest in the world and also mobile (meaning portable). The height of the device should be only 1.5 meters and the weight only 800 kilograms. The lightest magnetic resonance imaging is said to weigh almost seven tons and the largest even 37 tons. And they are a meter higher.

Huami argues that its MRI does not have to be placed in a shielded room and hers power consumption is only 1 kW. Compared to the usual 50 – 120 kW in conventional hospital MRI. We do not have a complete overview of medical devices, but at first glance it looks like a very interesting project that can help mainly in poorer and less well-equipped areas. Of course, it will depend on a price we don’t know yet.

How many times in your life have you had an MRI scan?
