The Upcoming Ninth Generation iPad Expected to be Thin and Lightweight – Similar to iPad Air

Keeping in mind the slowdown in business in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, Apple seems to have decided to make some of its products more affordable for the consumers. Therefore, it comes as no surprise to hear that the upcoming iPad model is expected to be a moderately-budgeted device. Apart from being made available at a more affordable price, the ninth-generation iPad has been in the news for a couple of other reasons as well.

According to Mac Otakara, a tech blog, the design of the soon-to-be-launched ninth-generation iPad will be similar to the third-generation iPad Air that was launched by the company in the year 2019. Mac Otakara, reportedly, has sourced out this information from the Chinese supply chain that is responsible for distributing Apple products.

While the size of the display screen will remain the same as before (10.2 inches), the breadth of the device is expected to be much less. Unconfirmed reports state that the new model will have a breadth of 6.3 mm and therefore, will be a lot thinner and less bulky than the earlier models. The last released model of the iPad had a 7.5 mm thick chassis. The ninth-generation model is expected to be 6.3 mm thick. There will be a marginal difference as far as the weight is concerned. While the current model weighed 490 grams, the upcoming model is reportedly 30 grams lighter.

The blog post also states that like the earlier models, the ninth-generation iPad will also have a lightning port and a Touch ID Home button. There are high chances of the new model featuring a full-lamination display screen, P3 wide color support, true tone, and an anti-reflective coating.

Apart from the iPad, the report also claims to have a good amount of information on the iPad Pro models. It states that the upcoming iPad Pro models will have the kind of housing or display screen earlier models had but there will be an improvement in the performance of the A-series chip.

In the recent past, one came across reports stating that iPad Pro models might feature a mini-LED display but there is no mention of it in the blog post. There could be a possibility of Apple launching a limited, high-end edition of the iPad Pro that will have a mini-LED display.

In December 2020, there was a news piece by Mac Rumors that carried information that was similar to the kind published by Mac Otakara. There was additional and contradictory information too including the ninth-generation iPad having a 10.5-inch display screen, a 4GB RAM, and an A13 Bionic chip.

There are rumors about the new iPad model being launched in the spring of 2021 but that there are slim chances of that happening as the current iPad model released as recently as in September 2020.
