The thinnest and lightest smartphone on the market

With the increasing diagonals of today’s smartphones, of course, the weight of smartphones also increases. New Carbon 1 Mark II goes against the current and according to the portal GSMarena with a display diagonal of 6.1 ″, it weighs only 125 grams and is 6.3 millimeters thick.

What is the secret of the light weight and thickness of the smartphone?

The smartphone is the successor of last year’s Carbon 1 Mark I model, which, unfortunately, did not end up on the market due to the coronavirus pandemic. The manufacturer has achieved low body weight and weight with special HyRECM (Hybrid Radio Enabled Composite Material) carbon fiber technology. Its development took him a whole 4 years. It combines high-quality carbon fibers originating in Germany with a composite material that allows radio waves to pass through.

In 2017, the production of this material still took 3 hours, but thanks to new technologies, it is only 30 minutes today. The small thickness was also achieved by the monococcal design of the body, which does not have an inner frame. All components are therefore attached to the carbon fiber itself. Plastic makes up less than 5% of the materials used in the construction of the phone. The body in black is also ecological and can be disassembled and converted into raw materials.

Despite the average parameters, the novelty has the price of flagship models

The AMOLED news display has a diagonal of 6.1 ″ and a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. It is covered by the latest toughened Gorilla Glass Victus glass with a thickness of only 0.4 millimeters. The display is without cutouts and holes. The 20 megapixel selfie camera is therefore placed the old way above the screen.

The fingerprint sensor is on the side. The dual camera surprisingly has two identical 16-megapixel sensors with the same f / 2.0 brightness. It should not lack support for 4K video at 30 fps. The system is in an older version of Android 10, but the manufacturer promises an early update to Android 11.

The performance is provided by a 12 nm MediaTek Helio P90 chipset with 8 GB LPDDR4X RAM. The owner can expand the internal memory of the UFS 2.1 type with a size of 256 GB with microSD cards. The smartphone does not have 5G support or a 3.5 mm headphone jack, but it does not lack LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS or an NFC chip.

Unfortunately, the small body thickness was reflected in the battery capacity of 3000 mAh. It is charged to 50% capacity in half an hour via the USB-C connector version 3.1. The manufacturer values its carbon fiber technology very much, which has had a negative effect on the price of the smartphone. Although the Carbon 1 Mark II is a parameter of the middle class model, the customer pays 800 euros for it.

Competition at the same price offers more in the heavier body

The Carbon 1 Mark II price corresponds to the most expensive model on the market. These are heavier, but offer better parameters. The Samsung Galaxy S21 has a higher quality camera, a more powerful processor, IP 68 certification water resistance and wireless charging.

The same goes for the Xiaomi Mi 11, which was the first smartphone with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset. An alternative is the Huawei P40 Pro, which lacks Google applications.
