These caused the departure of its users to competing services. Signal, which boasts the best communication security, seemed to benefit the most. Changes in conditions that have caused a wave of reluctance affect up to three areas. One of the mentioned areas is the method of data processing by WhatsApp. Another way is for businesses to manage their WhatsApp messages with Facebook. The third says that WhatsApp will soon connect with Facebook to offer a deeper connection to the services. It was the last point that provoked a wave of reluctance. Users will need to accept the new terms of data sharing between services if they want to continue using the application.

If they agree to the change, then WhatsApp will share them with Facebook telephone number at registration, transaction details, or their IP address. It should be noted that these conditions only apply to countries where GDPR rules do not apply, so they do not apply to Slovak users. Originally, these conditions were to come into force on February 8. However, due to negative reactions, the service announced the postponement of this date to May 15. Competitive services Signal and Telegram benefited the most from the whole case.

Although Signal, which is open-source and offers the highest level of security in the early days, was a more downloadable application, so Telegram has skipped in recent weeks. According to statistics from the analytical company SensorTower from the end of January, Telegram was not only the most downloaded application on Google Play, but also in general. It had 63 million downloads in January, 3.8 times more than a year ago.

Thanks to this, he removed the TikTok service from the first place with 62 million downloads. While overall, TikTok is no longer the most downloaded application, it still ranks first in the App Store. Telegram is the 4th most downloaded application in the App Store, but it doesn’t have to bother him, because the iOS platform has fewer users than Android. Signal took 3rd place in the overall ranking and second on the Android platform. WhatsApp dropped to 5th in the overall standings, 7th in the App Store and 6th in the Google Play store.
