The release of the Matter standard for smart homes is postponed to 2022

In 2019, Apple announced that it had teamed up with Samsung, Amazon, and Google to create a standard called the Matter. This is to solve a compatibility issue with smart home devices. The first device with the support of the new standard was expected to be introduced at the end of this year, but according to the 9to5Mac portal, its launch was postponed to 2022.

The growing pandemic and the growing alliance of supported producers also contributed to the delay

Tobin Richardson, Director General of the Connectivity Standards Alliance, announced the news to the world. He said in a blog post that not only the ongoing pandemic but also the addition of 29 other companies to the alliance and the effort to create high-quality software contributed to the release delay. Companies such as Philips Hue have promised to bring standard support for their existing accessories. But according to estimates, this will probably not happen until the second half of 2022.

The Matter standard will make it easier for customers to build a smart home

Hundreds of manufacturers, including large companies such as Apple, Google, Ikea, Samsung, ARM and even the Chinese Huawei, have joined forces to form the Connectivity Standards Alliance. Together, they created a standard called Matter (formerly Connected Home over IP) to make it easier for users to build a smart home. At the moment, when choosing a smart home accessory, you need to consider, for example, whether it is compatible with your voice assistant. However, once the new standard is introduced, it will no longer have to. All certified devices will be compatible with each other.
