The new survival horror was inspired by the famous sci-fi Thing -apkrig

Polish developers from the Liquid Engine Development studio are working on a new horror film Buried in Ice for PC and console, which they say is significantly inspired by the cult Thing. But it would probably be better to say that it is basically another, albeit unofficial adaptation or variation on a familiar topic. The main character is a member of the American polar station. We will become the only survivor who soon faces charges of destroying the base and killing our colleagues while facing a much more dangerous threat. In addition, the protagonist is named Kurt, as well as the lead actor in the 1982 film adaptation of director John Carpenter.

We need to stay warm, have enough energy, eat and arm ourselves. Hunger, cold, and stress are meant to be as deadly as the Thing.

The authors promise a mixture of survival horror and RPG, in which we will have to survive in an extremely inhospitable environment of a land of eternal snow and ice. After escaping from the burning base, we are trapped by strangers we do not understand and who consider us a dangerous criminal. The Thing may still be with us, and maybe we just helped her find other potential victims.

The authors warn that it must end here and now, otherwise humanity has no hope of survival. But they also point out that we are in the coldest place on Earth, in the middle of nowhere, and being outside for a long time means committing suicide. Escape is therefore out of the question. We need to stay warm, have enough energy, eat and arm ourselves. Hunger, cold, and stress are meant to be as deadly as the Thing. But food can be contaminated, and if you don’t find a suitable weapon, you have no choice but to make it. For example, the flamethrower, which is already in essential stories an essential indispensable prop.

In addition to physical health, we should also pay attention to mental health and monitor other people. Increased stress can lead to violent behavior and team members can attack each other. Important equipment may also be destroyed, or someone may prefer to commit suicide due to circumstances. Every decision is said to be crucial for us to survive and try to kill the Cause, or at least run away from it. And they gained some extra time.

How we do it is up to us, according to the authors. For example, we can throw others overboard in an effort to save our own necks. Holy purpose means? We still have to test our moral boundaries. We can lie, cheat, steal and leave others. Or, on the contrary, save them all, which will naturally be much more difficult, but it can lead to better results. Teamwork, relationships and your charisma should also play a role.

The authors recall that we have tried to kill the Case once and we have failed. We should therefore be smarter and reckon with the fact that it will not be easy. At the same time, however, we must move quickly, because time is also our enemy, and those who hesitate for a long time will eventually remain trapped. We need to find out who is still human and who is not quite. Allies are good, but what if you can no longer trust them, or you’re not sure if and who you can trust? If we say we stay together, we stay alive. But we will not stick to the others at all costs. Maybe it’s not even people anymore…

The Polish Liquid Engine Development team is based in Warsaw and, as already mentioned, plans the game for both PCs and consoles. But they did not specify them. Buried in Ice already has a profile on Steam and social networks, but the title has only just been introduced to the public, so so far the developers have introduced us to only the most basic. It should be noted that he has not received much beauty yet, but the premise itself is still attractive enough.

Thing in a nutshell

The author of the original is the American writer John Wood Campbell, who wrote the haunting sci-fi short story Who’s There? (Who Goes There?) Under the pseudonym Don A. Stuart. The story inspired by Lovecraft was created in 1938 and underwent a number of adaptations. The first film The Thing from Another World dates back to 1951. The story was also influenced by the film Horror Express from 1972. In 1982, the most famous version – The Thing, directed by John Carpenter, premiered. And in 2011 it received the prequel of the same name, which also works a bit like a remake, given that it tells the previous part of the story, but in almost the same way as the more famous original. The Canadian writer Peter Watts wrote the short story The Things from the perspective of the monster himself. In addition to card and board games, the video game The Thing was released in 2002. Survival horror for PC, Xbox and PS2 acted as a sequel to the 1982 film and received great acclaim.
