The new high-speed bike should go up to 50 km / h

The Dutch e-bike manufacturer Vanmoof has announced its first high-speed bike: The Vanmoof V should be able to travel up to 50 kilometers per hour and be quite affordable in comparison.

The V model is to be added to the range of the two Vanmoof pedelecs S3 (test) and X3. It was developed primarily for long commuting trips. The market launch is planned for the end of 2022.

Vanmoof V is said to drive up to 50 kilometers per hour

Vanmoof’s V-model can be classified as an S-Pedelec, with which, according to the manufacturer, up to 50 kilometers per hour can be reached – an e-moped in the form of a bicycle, so to speak. With the new e-bike, the company wants to “completely redefine locomotion in cities” and be seen as a “serious car replacement for everyday city life and beyond”.

So that the high-speed bike can also be approved in Germany – we remind you of the software function of the S3 and X3, with which the bikes could be illegally turned into an S-Pedelec – Vanmoof has integrated speed settings that comply with the respective local guidelines have it adjusted. The bike can only be used unthrottled in countries with a corresponding permit. In Germany, it is probably classified as an S-Pedelec, with which you can tile at up to 45 kilometers per hour on the street through the city.

“Equipped with numerous new functions, it should make even the largest city smaller,” explains the manufacturer. The special features of the V include a “two-wheel drive”, which means that both the front and rear wheels are equipped with an electric motor. The double motorization ensures, on the one hand, a significantly stronger acceleration, and on the other hand, an intelligent motor control is possible, which offers more traction and more safety and performance.

Vanmoof also relies on a spring-loaded frame, thicker tires and a new frame design with which the bike is designed “for a smooth ride”. Like the manufacturer’s two pedelecs, the V will also be equipped with the infamous “Turbo Boost”. The so-called kick lock in the rear hub for keyless unlocking as well as automatic gear shifting and theft protection are also on board. Vanmoof has not yet revealed any further details about the equipment.

Vanmoof V should cost around 3,500 euros

With the targeted Price of 3,498 euros the Vanmoof V is also quite affordable when you consider that competitor models start at around 5,000 euros. In contrast to the pedelec, a class AM driving license (scooter driving license) is required for such a speed bike. Wearing a bicycle helmet is also compulsory.

According to Vanmoof, the V is still in the development phase, but can be reserved from today via exclusive invitations. First of all, the rider community should be able to reserve the bike for 20 euros. For a wider audience, the manufacturer will publish reservation codes “at regular intervals via a waiting list” on its own website.

In the wake of the announcement, Vanmoof co-founders Ties and Taco Carlier are calling on lawmakers and city councils to revise the existing e-bike regulations to further encourage developments in this area. In addition, during the development of the V, the company is looking for close cooperation with city administrations with the aim of developing “solutions from geofencing to revised speed limits”.
