The Huawei Mate 20 series will no longer receive security updates

The Huawei Mate 20 series was launched in 2018 and its models were among the company’s best devices at the time. But after two years, Huawei has decided to officially end support for devices in this series and will no longer receive security updates.

Only the Mate 20 X 5G will receive updates

The Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X smartphones were launched at the end of 2018. Their performance was taken care of by the Kirin 980 chipset, which was based on 7 nm technology. They also brought a 40 W fast charge and a 40 megapixel rear camera, which was reportedly one of the best of the year. In terms of performance, these devices are still smooth and fast even after two years.

However, they have already completed their two years of promised updates. Now, these three devices face a similar fate as the Mate 10 series devices last year, which means that they will stop receiving monthly and quarterly security patches. Huawei has removed them from the list of supported devices on its official website, according to the Gizmochina portal. However, it seems that the Mate 20 X 5G model will continue to receive updates, which has not been removed from the list.

Upgrade to EMUI 11

As was the case with the Mate 10 series, the above devices do not have a specific end date for support. This means that they will receive fewer and fewer updates until they eventually stop receiving them altogether. Huawei has announced a major update plan for EMUI 11, and the Mate 20 series models are also awaiting the update.
