The founder of parkour -apkrig is also involved in the development of Dying Light 2

Developers from the Techland studio published another part of their diary about the preparations for the expected continuation of the Dying Light event and shared with the fans a nutritious portion of hitherto unseen gameplay footage. The demonstration was focused on the movement between the infected, their various types and, of course, on the brisk movement of the main character through the unhappy City with the help of parkour. We were able to watch on the screen for more than five minutes that the game – at least in the chosen segment – everything is in perfect order and according to the reactions of the fans, the video itself evokes a sufficient dose of fear and unpleasant feelings from the dense atmosphere. In addition, the French choreographer and stuntman David Belle, who is considered the founder of parkour and who undoubtedly provided Polish developers with enough valuable advice and information to make this part of the game even better than in the first part, also misses the video several times.

Leading game designer Tymon Smektała was the first to provide new information, focusing on underlining the fact that those infected were until recently healthy people. The transformation into a terrifying monster was painful for them, and their suffering did not end, which players should notice if they watch the infected for a while. Not everyone shouts because they want to kill the protagonist. Not everyone is willing to follow their new animal instincts stubbornly and sometimes do something human. In any case, the game should evoke a certain sympathy in the players, for which, however, there is usually not much space left due to the fact that they will constantly lose their lives. As stated earlier, Smektała pointed out that although the streets of the City will be empty during the day, there will always be a threat lurking for the player, which logically applies to the dark interiors of buildings where the infected hide from the light.

The player quickly learns to recognize individual species, and while Biter or Howler will not be too much of a threat, the legendary Volatile is someone or something they don’t just hide from.

Even in such places, we will be able to visit, which is the main part of the new video, in which the protagonist must remain silent. Approaching to is not recommended either sleeping infected and it is certainly appropriate not to cross the path of those who walk around the building and are looking for someone to attack. However, the player quickly learns to recognize individual species, and while Biter or Howler will not be too much of a threat, the legendary Volatile is someone or something they don’t just hide from. At the same time, even during the day, the infected will be able to spend a short time in the light, so you will not have won even if you leave the building. Even such a flight in the demonstration will occur, but not necessarily in an attempt to escape the enemy, but to stop the action of too high a dose of chemicals, which could make the protagonist an unthinking bloodthirsty monster. It is the constant monitoring of the level of infection and the effort to prevent its spread that will be one of the key aspects of the game and will probably be to echo at the most inopportune moment.

The developers also talked about the design of monsters and their animation, for which man has always served as the basic building block. However, the people of Techland, for example, turned to other representatives of the animal kingdom when choosing to move and constantly weighed how strongly instinct can control not only the behavior, but also the way in which the infected move from place to place. In addition to the aforementioned monsters, Banshee came to the fore – an infected woman with long arms, for whom the fight itself is very painful, and there may come moments when she refuses to fight and suddenly crouches behind an obstacle in an effort to gain more strength and cope. general body pain. Also interesting is the sound design, which was created for the needs of the game similar to the sound effects in the film. Here, too, the developers relied on the sounds that a person is able to produce with his throat, but, of course, they supplemented it with various clattering and bubbling, corresponding to the degree of infection.

These and other details that the developers will talk about next time, should result in an imaginative, scary and original game, which, according to the reactions so far, players are really starting to like. Paradoxically, much of the criticism of the players disappeared with the flick of a stick because they kept the game under wraps for two years – after which we didn’t see anything special – or because of various accusations about a dysfunctional team and leadership problems. After all, the numbers speak for themselves and the developers boasted that the stream of the first episode of the developer’s diary was watched by over 750,000 people, the previous gameplay trailer collected 10 million views, social media posts have the same number of views, and developers recorded over 6 million messages on Discord and Dying Light 2 has reportedly added 2.6 million players to Steam’s wish list. So we’ll see where the numbers go until December, when Dying Light 2 comes out!
