The forgotten smartphone: Samsung Galaxy Pocket (S5300)

Samsung has a huge portfolio of smartphones and devices that have been released in recent years. The Samsung Galaxy Pocket, which you probably forgot about for a long time, is also part of that. In this edition of ‘The forgotten smartphone’ we go back to the S5300.

Samsung Galaxy Pocket

In 2011, Samsung released the Galaxy Pocket, a very compact smartphone with Android. For many, it was their first introduction to the smartphone. The device was reasonably priced and well equipped for that time. But what did the Samsung Galaxy Pocket S5300, as it was called in full, have to offer?

Due to the compact size, a small screen could be found, a 2.8 inch display with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. There was an 832 MHz single-core processor and 512 MB of RAM. The internal memory was quite sufficient for the time; You had 3GB at your disposal. You could, however, expand the memory with a memory card of up to 32GB. The battery capacity is currently around 4000-5000 mAh, the Galaxy Pocket came on the market with a 1200 mAh battery.

The Samsung S5300 offered support for the 3G network and could of course also handle WiFi. In addition, it had GPS on board, just like a 3.5 millimeter connection for a headset, an FM radio and there was a 2 megapixel camera. This camera did miss a series of options. For example, autofocus was missing and there was no flash. Filming was possible at 15 frames per second in a resolution of 320p. Samsung released the device with Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread with the TouchWiz interface. Synchronizing your music and such went through Samsung Kies.

The Samsung Galaxy Pocket came on the market for an amount of around 100 euros. It was mainly sold in combination with a prepaid package. Do you have (nice) memories of the Galaxy Pocket? We are curious! Leave a comment below this post.
