The forgotten phone: Siemens SX1 from 2003

In 2003, Siemens still regularly released telephones. In that year the Siemens SX1, a device with a very striking design and even Symbian as an OS, appeared. This week we discuss the Siemens SX1 in ‘The forgotten phone’.

This edition we go back to the year 2003. Siemens released the Siemens SX1. It was the first phone from the German manufacturer to feature the Symbian OS 6.1 platform. This platform was mainly used by Nokia, but Siemens also started using it. What stood out most about the phone was the design; no numeric keys below the screen, but left and right of the screen. Entering a telephone number thus took on a whole new dimension. However, texting is also completely different than with average telephones.

Below the screen was the navigation key and a few more shortcuts. On the side of the Siemens SX1 were two more keys. This allowed you to quickly launch the camera or record a voice memo. Various games could be found on the device and you could also get started with SMS, MMS and limited mailing. The Siemens SX1 was equipped with a 0.3 megapixel VGA camera and Bluetooth. The music lover could get started with the FM radio on the device.

Siemens gave the SX1 a 1000 mAh battery and you could exchange it. Furthermore, the SX1 offered 16MB of internal storage space, but due to all the fuss, there was only 4MB left for the user in total. This could be expanded with an MMC memory card. Then let’s talk about the screen; this was a 2.2 inch color screen with a resolution of 220 x 176 pixels.

Do not be alarmed by the price for which the Siemens SX1 was sold. For 550 euros the SX1 was yours.
