The Forgotten Phone: LG GM360 Viewty Snap

LG is now no more. It was different about eleven years ago. The LG devices flew around your ears. In 2010, there was the LG GM360 Viewty Snap, as part of the Viewty series. This week we discuss the device in ‘The forgotten phone’.

LG’s Viewty series were devices with a focus on the camera; taking good pictures. The top model was the LG KU990 Viewty, and later the Viewty Smart appeared. Another device that appeared in the Viewty series was the LG Viewty Snap with the model number GM360. Without having to shake your wallet, LG promised good camera quality. The phone offered social networking integration and there was a 3.5 millimeter jack for a headset. The integration of social networks was from, for example, Facebook and Twitter, but also services that we don’t hear about anymore; such as Orkut, MySpace, and Picasa.

The camera of the smartphone was the most important feature. The LG GM360 Viewty Snap was equipped with a Schneider-Kreuznach lens, which was assisted by an LED flash. The lens was a 5 megapixel camera. A concern with the Viewty Snap’s camera was the amount of noise that sometimes took over. Filming was not exactly for the phone; this was only going in QVGA resolution at 10 frames per second. With Optic-All Zoom it was possible to zoom in digitally without loss of quality, as the marketing department described it.

LG gave its devices a striking own interface at the time. You could place widgets on the home screen, which we also know from the LG Cookie. You had the option to place a maximum of three widgets per main screen. You could only use the widgets from LG itself. There was also Livesquare, which looked quite childish, and gave you insight into your last calls and contacts.

The LG GM360 Viewty Snap was equipped with a 3.0 inch display; a resistive touchscreen with a resolution of 400 x 240 pixels. There was about 60MB of storage space and we also saw Bluetooth in the Viewty Snap. The battery capacity was 900 mAh and the battery was removable. The device came out in the Netherlands for around 130-150 euros.

LG GM360 Viewty Snap summarized in 3 points:

  • 5.0 megapixel camera
  • 3.0 inch resistive touchscreen
  • Widgets
