The flagship Exynos with AMD graphics will arrive later this year
Earlier this year, Samsung announced that its flagship Exynos processors would use graphics from AMD. However, Samsung did not state when this would happen or provide any other information about the cooperation with AMD. The details were only revealed by AMD during the Computex 2021 event, which takes place this week. The Sammobile portal informed about the news.
We will see the first flagship Exynos with AMD graphics this year
Executive Director of AMD, Dr. Lisa Su, during the presentation, announced that the upcoming flagship Exynos will have AMD graphics built on the RDNA2 architecture. It is also used by AMD 6000 series graphics cards as well as PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles. It will bring several advanced features to smartphones, such as ray tracing and variable rate shading, which will make games look more realistic. This architecture is also well optimized, which means that the new chipset should offer better battery life.
“AMD has partnered with Samsung for several years to accelerate the development of graphics chips in the smartphone market. We are pleased to announce that the next flagship Exynos processor will feature ray tracing and variable rate shading. ”
Samsung will reportedly release more details about the upcoming processor later this year.
The end of failed Exynoses is approaching
In addition to poor overall performance, the Exynos chipset often blamed relatively weak graphics performance. Thanks to graphics from AMD, this should change for this year’s flagships. The first Exynos with AMD graphics should be the Exynos 2200, which will be used not only in smartphones but also in laptops.
