The first game from PS4 works on PS5 at 120 fps -apkrig

Call of Duty: Warzone is the first PS4 game to support a 120 fps framerate on PlayStation 5 for backward compatibility. There are already several such games on the Xbox Series, but the developers have argued that this is not possible with backward compatibility on the PlayStation. That it would be necessary to create a completely new native PS5 version because of this. For example, it was heard by the authors of the game Rocket League. Another example was Star Wars: Squadrons.

Experts predicted that it would work

During the fourth season, however, this mode got into the PS4 version on the PS5. To do this, you need an HDMI 2.1 cable (if you want to achieve the highest possible resolution at the same time) and enable 120 Hz output in the console settings itself and switch to performance mode in the general game settings. This support was added to the Xbox Series version last November.

At the time, we wrote that Sony, according to developers, Eurogamer and Digital Foundry, limited support for 120 fps to games designed exclusively for the PlayStation 5. While on the Xbox Series, a small update was enough. It was not possible without native versions. However, experts have indicated that it is possible that Sony will in the future allow older games to keep pace with Xbox versions in terms of backward compatibility. Richard Leadbetter of Digital Foundry believed that this could theoretically be possible because of upgrades to some PSVR games from PS4, which are also common in backward compatibility. And he wasn’t wrong.

It is not quite clear whether the authors have now come up with a way to circumvent this restriction, or whether Sony has generally allowed 120 fps for backward compatibility on the PS5. If so, we’ll probably see more similar updates for other games.

For the most powerful consoles, an optional high-resolution texture package has also been available for Warzone for some time. It is not only intended for the PS5 and Xbox Series, but also for the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. However, when it comes to Warzone in particular, we still know that it will see a native next-gen version, which will make even better use of the new hardware.
