The developers have not yet decided to save the position in Returnal -apkrig

One of the few complaints that went to the roguelite account of the Returnal event from the developers from Housemarque was the impossibility of saving the game, even with reference to the chosen genre, in the usual way. Although players can put the entire console to sleep and continue the running cycle after waking up, not everyone is used to leaving the device run, or they want to play another game and not lose a promising approach. Therefore, the developers from the Housemarque studio confirmed some time ago that they had noticed critical responses and implicitly indicated that they would think about them. In the meantime, players came up with ideas on how the storage system could work – sooner or later, however, they came across the fact that the storage system could be abused relatively easily. The usual automatic saving of the started state must be written somewhere, and that is simply the profile of the game, resp. saved position in the console or cloud. It can be taken from here infinitelybefore the work succeeds, and thus a large part of the great atmosphere of the game can be dropped. We are not surprised that even after a few weeks, the developers are not entirely clear on how to deal with the problem, which is confirmed in the current interview for the Axios Gaming newsletter.

Marketing manager Mikael Havari said that the team is constantly working on the question of which solution to choose, but the pitfalls are different expectations from different players. “At the moment, we simply do not know where to go. That’s why it’s very difficult to announce anything, given that a lot of different people expect different things, “said Havari. In essence, he reiterated the official opinion of the developers from the end of last month, which responded to a long thread on Reddit, regarding the absence of a system for saving the position. “We listen to the community and we love you. But now we have nothing to announce, so play and enjoy the challenge as best you can, “the developers wrote at the time. In the quoted interview, Havari then adds that the game was actually created as a title that players must focus on and set their own approach to hardcore mode.

However, the reactions of the players are really very diverse and we do not envy the developers from Housemarque. While some believe that saving the position would ruin the whole experience and remove a reasonable amount of stress from fears of the protagonist’s death. Others emphasize perfect gameplay, but with reference to less time to play, they want not only the ability to save the game but also lower difficulty. However, due to the roguelite concept, this is unlikely to happen, so it remains only a question of whether developers will at least save. For example, in the popular game Hades, there is the possibility of quicksavu, and even that does not prevent players or critics from aiming for ratings to the highest levels. However, such Spelunks approach the game as Returnal and we have not noticed an increased interest in saving positions. It is therefore certain in advance that no matter what the authors of Returnal decide, acceptance will not be unanimous and may benefit the game as well as harm it.
