The Czech “socialist” retro shooter HROT will be released in January -apkrig

The end of the year seems to be marked by good news from the world of video games. That a hint of a positive year in 2021? In any case, just before New Year’s Eve, the author of the Czech retro event HROT made us very happy. Spytihnev (Tragedy of Ruprecht of Palatinate, LEGION) announcedthat the first episode of his promising old-fashioned shooter will be released on January 29. And he has traditionally supplemented this announcement with a new trailer.

“You start in a civil protection shelter deep under the Cosmonauts subway station.”

A Czech variation on old 3D events from the second half of the 1990s, such as Quake, will take us to Czechoslovakia in 1986. According to Spytihněv, the first episode is to offer 8 levels, 16 types of enemies, 9 weapons and four boss fights. You can also look forward to New Game + and arena mode, attracts the author of the game.

TIP focuses only on the single, betting on fast action and socialist scenery as well as period props. For example, instead of first aid kits, you supplement your health with bags of semi-skimmed milk. “You start in a hiding place of civil protection deep under the Kosmonautů metro station and as a proud bearer of the military readiness badge you know your duty: to put on a broken gas mask, load a model 52 pistol and defend peace and socialist homeland from all strange intruders,” Spytihněv said.

He proudly subscribes to the legacy of classics not only in terms of playability, but also aesthetics. According to the author, madmen in raincoats, killers in spacesuits, self-attacking dogs, horses and goats will stand against us. We will remove them from the road with the help of a varied arsenal of weapons. “There are shotguns, a model 13 submachine gun, tarasnice and top-secret experimental Soviet flashlight weapons (such as a ball lightning launcher). When the ammunition runs out, there is always a sickle and a hammer on hand, ”advises Spytihněv.

The individual levels are inspired by real locations and you will undoubtedly recognize some places from Prague in them. Forget modern tunnels and corridors as well, the TIP will offer traditional intricate levels reminiscent of labyrinths of interconnected corridors, where there is no shortage of secret rooms, locks, keys and switches.

Try a playable demo version

The game is powered by its own engine, which the developer wrote himself to mimic the appearance of old shooters as well as possible with some of their graphic ailments. At the moment, it’s only aimed at Windows. Remember, a playable demo version is still available on Steam. You can find more details about the HROT shooter in our older articles. We devote ourselves to the title regularly and we really like it. We also tried its unfinished version. We first wrote about HROT last September.

Spytihněv allegedly dreamed of the game since the mid-1990s, but did not start work until much later. According to him, he did not fully immerse himself in the project until 2017. ”I chose the topic of socialism because it seems dark to me in itself – Soviet gas masks, concrete, sirens. But it is only an atmospheric and perhaps a nostalgic backdrop for some, politics will not be addressed there. I like the underground, whether it’s the subway, collectors, exhausts, civil defense shelters or even undiscovered medieval spaces, ”the author described last autumn, where the stylization comes from and where he draws ideas.
