The Czech logic game Repeat was born from the game pit -apkrig
We may not need to introduce the Ghost Studio, which operates under the auspices of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Brno University of Technology, to you. Dominik Konečný released the play Hadr under his banner last October. Now this group is returning with a new title Repeat. It is a first-person logic game in which the player solves spatial puzzles. The story is situated in space, which is absorbed by the space-time rift, and our task is to avert this destruction.
The atmospheric single-player game reminded me at first glance of a successful Manifold Garden title, but let’s take a closer look at the novelty so that we don’t make premature conclusions. Dominik Konečný and his colleagues Daniel Jenikovský, Matyáš Mrkus, Vojtěch Vaněk and Bohdan Heblík are behind her again. The idea was born out of a successful prototype for a game jam, in which the group likes to participate in order to develop the skills of its members. Although the prototype team has decided to expand and develop its potential, at the same time it wishes to maintain to some extent the minimalism of the original guardrails. Of course, new ideas and mechanisms will be added.
The original project for Ludum Dare lacked a specific setting or styling. It was a functional logical first person game, but according to the authors it offered only schematic design and simple audiovisual processing. The purpose was to present the key element, ie the repetition itself. The possibility of adding additional content and motives is connected with full-fledged development. From automated workflows, developers have moved to manual design. The authors say that development has restarted, but now they are well on their way.
From prototype to current version
We know that Repeat will be divided into levels. We will explore a wonderful world, which is best illustrated by the captivating scenes from the game. The story is then to be hidden in the puzzles themselves, which sounds interesting, but we don’t know more about it yet. The developers promise to tell us more in other diaries, through which we will be able to peek behind the scenes of the team.
Repeat drives the Unity engine and targets the PC. It should be released later this year. In the summer we will see a playable demo version. Console and VR versions are to follow next year, which sounds great.
