Fairy tales exist
Once upon a time… three hectares of forest full of fairytale characters, playgrounds and attractions. Jump on the giant mattress of De Prinses op de Pewt, play a game of Giant Chess or watch a movie in the 7D Cinema. Sprookjesbos Valkenburg is a fantastic family park.
Nuthatch
You go up in height on the Lage Vuursche. In Klimbos Gooi-Eemland, children – from the age of six – clamber through the trees via ten routes. From junior route (for children from 1.20 m) to the black route for real daredevils, at a height of no less than 22.5 meters. Then relax on the lovely terrace of tea house ‘t Hooge Erf.
Boots path
The name says it all: you need boots (or sturdy shoes) for this walking path at Visitor Center de Wieden. You walk about 2.5 kilometers through the reeds, past a swamp forest and through open hay meadows. The pull ponies along the way are really fun. Tip: also take a look at the adjacent Oerrr nature playground.
Flee the city
Away from the city? The Amsterdamse Bos in Amstelveen with its goat farm, a pancake house, swimming and sailing spots, open air theater, treasure hunts and climbing park is an ideal destination for a beautiful summer day.
Boss of the forest
For forest rangers in the making, the Ranger Route at Bungalow Park Hoenderloo is great. Pick up a ranger backpack in advance, filled with binoculars, assignment booklet and something to eat and drink for the road. Secretly, the assignments and games in the forest are just as much fun for parents. Tip: finish with lunch in the Boskantine.
Red with white dots
In search of the inhabitants of the forest at country house Villa Ockenburg in The Hague. The new Kabouterpad in this forest is fantastic. For five euros you can buy a gnome bag with a hat, magnifying glass, a pack of drinks and fruit. There is also a very nice playground along the route.
Those six long weeks of summer vacation will fly by as you go slide-rolling, bushwalking, tractor racing or visiting the Romans.
