The Germans are in the mood for electric cars, as shown by the number of registrations, which are increasing year after year. For many, the main reason for switching from combustion engines is environmental protection. But in fact someone else is crucial.

Electric cars: Half of Germans are not ready

There is no way around electric cars, as many consumers and the vast majority of manufacturers have long agreed. Finally, there are also bans on fossil fuels in the EU, even if there is still some way to go until 2035 – according to the EU Commission’s plan. In addition, the prices for petrol and diesel are already rising. So it is no wonder that many a buyer is already asking the question: Will the next car be an electric car?

For the Germans who are willing to switch, the Environmental protection is the highest motivation to opt for an e-car – even before the lower costs of charging the e-cars. However, environmental protection is not quite as crucial as it seems. For many respondents, rising electricity costs speak against the switch.

Buying an e-car: It depends on the price of electricity

If the cost of charging current rises to the levels of fossil fuels, it would 41 percent of respondents decide against the e-car again, another 13 percent are undecided. 46 percent, on the other hand, do not question the switch even then – practically a draw between the two sides. Whether e-cars are interesting for buyers ultimately depends on the electricity price.
