Tesla is planning 55 new Supercharger locations in Germany

Before opening its charging infrastructure for other electric cars and after a price increase, Tesla wants to create 55 new supercharger locations in Germany – an increase of 50 percent.

According to Tesla, there are currently a little over 90 supercharger stations across Germany. At the end of June, the Californian electric car manufacturer announced that it would open its charging infrastructure for electric vehicles from other providers – including in Germany. It should start in the course of this year. When the Q2 figures were announced, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the group wanted to significantly expand the number of its superchargers. In Germany, Tesla is planning 55 new supercharger stations in the coming months – an increase of around 50 percent.

Supercharger: Three new locations in Berlin

The group has that via an update of its official Supercharger load directory reveals how Teslamag writes. According to this, some of the new charging stations should open in the current third quarter, for example in Neumünster. Three new locations for the Tesla charging stations are planned for Berlin alone, the northernmost location is planned in Kiel for the second quarter of 2022. Several supercharger stations are to be built in the Rhine-Main area, in the Rhineland and in the area around Stuttgart.

While drivers of other electric cars should be happy about the opening of the Tesla charging infrastructure, not all Tesla owners are enthusiastic. It is feared that a higher load and possibly longer loading times could lead to complications when loading. According to Tesla Musk, the latter wants to address through higher costs for slow chargers. In addition, all users of superchargers could soon have flexible prices. Charging electric cars at peak times would become more expensive. This would allow the utilization to be controlled.

However, Tesla fans should be less enthusiastic about the latest announcement regarding the prices for charging at Tesla’s Supercharger stations. Because Tesla has already increased prices again – also in Germany. According to information from Tesla drivers, one kilowatt hour of supercharger electricity should now cost 0.40 euros, as is the case with Teslamag is called. In the past few months, Tesla had raised prices in several stages from 0.33 euros per kilowatt hour to the current price level. Since October 2020, prices have increased by 21 percent. However, Tesla is still one of the cheapest providers in Germany.
