Tesla chasing records again? Tesla Model S Plaid speeds over the Nürburgring
Tesla has modified its Model S plaid and is currently testing it at the Nürburgring. The manufacturer seems to be preparing for a new record attempt. So are we seeing new standard equipment here?
The Tesla Model S Plaid had already set the official best lap time of a production electric car on the Nürburgring in September. The US carmaker, presumably in the person of Elon Musk himself, apparently had such fun with it that they are chasing a Model S plaid over the Nürburgring again these days.
This is probably a new prototype of the Model S plaid. Because the car surprises with an adaptive spoiler, which is activated depending on the driving situation and can also be used as an air brake to support the friction brakes on the wheels in a fully vertical position.
The prototype is also equipped with modified wind deflectors on the wheel housings, cup tires and a prominent front lip.
Teslamag suspects that Tesla could be working on a racing package – similar to that of the Model 3 Performance – for the Model S Plaid. Only then would a new record attempt really be worthwhile, because it is only suitable for marketing if it is achieved with a series vehicle. The availability of an optionally available retrofit kit could meet the definition of series.
The Nürburgring is a familiar track for the Model S. Tesla had already tested the first prototypes of the model in the Eifel two years before the market launch. But it was only after Porsche set a record with its brand new Taycan electric car at the Nürburgring in 2019 that Tesla boss Elon Musk’s ambition was awakened.
