Statistics on the use of individual services during Christmas Day were also published by another Slovak operator – O2.
O2 customers sent almost 7.4 million SMS messages and up to 602,000 MMS messages. In addition, the operator provided more than 3.9 million calls. The trend of increasing the volume of data traffic was naturally confirmed also during this year’s holidays, with an increase of almost 40%.

“Our customers used our services to wish a nice Christmas to family and loved ones in large numbers this year as well. Requests via SMS messages are very slightly declining, but at the same time we are seeing a slight increase in calls and a significant increase in MMS messages and data network traffic, which has increased by almost 40% in mobile networks as a whole. It seems that this year, due to the pandemic, we wanted to communicate not only in text, but also through photos, video and voice. We wish our customers a wonderful holiday spent in good health and well-being, “says Tereza Molnár, O2’s head of communications.
This Christmas was in a completely different spirit than we have known so far. The global pandemic has deprived some of us of the opportunity to spend the most beautiful holidays of the year with those closest to us. We connected with those we could not meet, at least virtually, through messages or phone calls. According to a press release from the 4ka operator, customers took full advantage of its services at this time.
4ka’s Christmas statistics prove that his customers really thought of their loved ones
In the past day, customers have been able to call a total of 2.322 million minutes. They managed to send up to 1.972 million SMS messages and transfer almost 117.5 TB of mobile data. If we also take into account last year’s statistics of transmitted data, we can speak of a year-on-year increase of up to 46.7%. In the case of such statistics of telephone calls, it is a year-on-year increase of up to 60.5%. The most transmitted data was recorded between 7 pm and 8 pm.
Patrik Kollaroci, technical director of the Slovak operator 4ka, stated:
“This Christmas, the Quads made the most phone calls between 10:00 and 11:00, when they called for a total of almost 227.6 thousand minutes. The expected slowdown in the network came in the early evening from 5 pm to 6 pm, when most customers settled in on Christmas Eve dinner.“
The average outgoing call was up to 162.5 seconds on December 24, so it lasted less than three minutes. This is up to 31.7% longer the average length of an outgoing call compared to last year.
