Tears of the Kingdom eliminates major criticisms of the predecessor
Many Zelda players were excited about the cooking mechanic in Breath of the Wild, but the feature also had some annoying issues. New reports indicate that in the sequel Tears of the Kingdom, the developers have finally fixed at least some of the criticisms.

Zelda: BotW – that was annoying when cooking
Quickly throw some meat, fish and vegetables on the stove and a few seconds later a delicious dish will end up in your inventory, which in most cases not only gives Link a good portion of HP, but also gives him some additional buffs.
If you really want to master Breath of the Wild, spend a good amount of time in front of the cooking pot and stock up on healing and buff items. But two points get on the nerves of many players:
- Although you can light a small campfire anywhere in the game world and cook some food this way, However, there are only real hotplates in certain places in the game world.
- Dishes that are often cooked cannot be saved. Instead, every time you cook, you have to remember which food is needed for which dish.
13 minutes of gameplay from Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom show you which new abilities Link can use in his next adventure:
Zelda: TotK makes cooking easier and more accessible
But that is now changing in the successor Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – this is shown by new screenshots and reports IGN. That’s about it conjure up a real hotplate at any time using the Zonai device. The only requirement: the surface on which the hob is placed must be at ground level. Another restriction: These hotplates can only be used once. After a dish has been cooked, the cooking area is immediately destroyed.
In addition, players no longer have to remember exactly what food they need to cook a particular dish. Because Link can now access a kind of cookbookin which a large selection of recipes is stored. The only problem is that you cannot start the cooking process directly. Players are still forced to manually select all food via the inventory and put it in the cooking pot – annoying.
It remains to be seen whether recipes you have created yourself can also be saved and stored in this way – but we do not assume it will.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023.
