Sygic navigation app officially supported by Android Auto

Android Auto now provides official support for the Sygic navigation app. That’s good news if you’re not a fan of Google Maps.

Read on after the ad.

Navigation app Sygic now compatible with Android Auto

Android Auto users can get started with the Sygic navigation app. A new beta version of the software has been released which is officially supported by the operating system. This means that the app is now better suited to the display in your car.

Until now, Google Maps and Waze were the only Android Auto navigation apps with official support. A big advantage of Sygic is that you can use the app offline. You are therefore not dependent on the internet connection of your phone. This can be useful if you are in areas with poor coverage. Moreover, you do not go through your data bundle as quickly.

Sygic could already be used in Android Auto, but then you just got to see the phone app on your screen. The new version has a simple interface that is specially made for the larger display in your car. You only see the necessary information and can concentrate on the map. That makes navigation a lot easier.

Google opens doors to third-party apps

Google announced earlier this year that it will support third-party apps in Android Auto. You can not only think of navigation apps, but also parking apps and apps that help you to charge your electronic car.

Sygic is one of the first apps to have official access to Android Auto. As mentioned, this support is still in the beta stage. This means that the app may not function optimally yet. If you want to try Sygic anyway, you can download the latest version from the Play Store. You also have to register with Sygic itself.
