Sustainable diapers for sustainable parents
Babies create a lot of plastic waste every year with their dirty diapers. Not surprising, since they wear an average of 5 a day. However, this is of course not so good for the environment. Fortunately, there are plenty of alternatives. What options can you choose from?

It is so easy and fast: just go to the supermarket or the drugstore and you grab a pack of diapers for your little one, because you are almost out of stock. But as you become more aware of how much plastic a diaper contains and how many diapers you throw away per month, you might think twice before you walk to the checkout.

Diapers are therefore very polluting for the environment. But what are the alternatives?

You can use cloth diapers and wash them. Super durable: you can use one diaper very often. However, this is impractical and time consuming for most parents.

More and more manufacturers are therefore bringing sustainable diapers onto the market. These are disposable diapers, but more environmentally friendly than the normal version. What makes them sustainable?

A climate neutral diaper is made from natural ingredients. Think of sugar cane or plant-derived cellulose. But the production of these environmentally friendly diapers and their transport must also take place in a sustainable manner. Chemicals must be released as little as possible during production and exhaust emissions must also be minimal. The necessary chemicals that are released must be compensated.

You do want to contribute to a more sustainable society. But you still want the best for your baby. Fortunately, eco-diapers are made in such a way that they are just as skin-friendly and soft as regular diapers.

How do you recognize an eco-diaper?

You can see whether a diaper is sustainable by a quality mark on the packaging. In Europe this is the EU Ecolabel. If this label is on the packaging, it meets the requirements set by the EU for an environmentally friendly diaper.
