We can’t stop talking about it: the South Korean drama on Netflix. It revolves around a survival game, where every participant has problems in real life. The game is their last chance to make something of their lives. And to win a large amount of money. Some of the games also feature a certain type of cookies.
Candy Craze by Squid Game
Dalgona, that’s a honeycomb cookie. It is made from a mixture of sugar and baking soda. The sugar toffee texture comes from Korea, where it has been very popular among the population for decades. Have you already watched the series, then you know the cookie from episode three. Here the players have to play a (seemingly) innocent child’s game. Each player of the game must carefully cut out a shape. Namely a circle, star, triangle or umbrella. This is printed on a piece of honeycomb. If you do this wrong and the cookie breaks, you are the Sjaak. A soldier then shoots you dead on the spot.
As is often the case with hit series, this causes the candy to cause a real craze. Everyone would now like to buy or make such a cookie.

The production crew jokingly thought this: “The production crew and I joked that our series would cause a Dalgona craze, like Netflix’s Kingdom did with the ‘gat’ – a traditional Korean hat – but I’m surprised it actually happened, Squid Game creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk told The Korea Times.
