What are the updates on a smartphone?

On Android as on iOS, three types of updates exist. Although each fulfills a different purpose, it is still important to ensure that they are properly installed.

• System updates : these are the most important updates of Android. They bring new features as well as technical fixes.
• Security updates : these are patches specific to the vulnerabilities and faults of your operating system.
• Application updates : to properly protect your smartphone, the various applications installed on your device must also be up to date.

But on Android, other types of updates exist. Indeed, Google’s OS is a complex environment, based on both the basic Android interface, but also on the manufacturer overlay.

• Google Play updates : Google services present on all Android smartphones are automatically updated frequently.
• Overlay updates : each manufacturer ensures to provide support as well as a technical follow-up to its personalized version of Android.

How to unlock an Android update?

As you will have understood, several types of updates exist on Android, and all of them are essential for the security of your device. While downloading or installing, some rare issues may freeze your device or prevent the update from completing. This problem is very easily fixed most of the time.

Wait a few minutes

Sometimes the operating system unlocks itself after a few minutes. Put your smartphone on the table, go have a coffee and come back to test its proper functioning.

Restart your mobile

Is your device update still stuck? No worries, restarting will probably solve the problem! By restarting a smartphone, the system resets and even dysfunctional processes stop.

Hold down the power button until the screen turns off, then wait a few seconds for all processes to stop. You can now restart the device!

If none of the previous solutions worked, you can also turn to factory reset. However, we do not recommend this method except as a last resort: you will lose everything that has not been saved! First turn to the manufacturer’s technical assistance if you have not found a solution on the specialized forums and, if necessary, your operator, to identify a solution.
