… the world’s most successful 5G smartphone comes from its big competitor Apple: The iPhone 12 stole the crown from the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G, which was previously in first place.
The most recent figures are from Counterpoint Research and refer to worldwide sales for October. According to the market researchers, the iPhone 12 had a market share of 16 percent this month. And Apple also took second place – thanks to the iPhone 12 Pro, which accounted for 8 percent of all sales. Only then – and with due distance – will the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G (4 percent) follow.
Best-selling 5G smartphones: These are the top ten
Devices from other manufacturers are also among the top ten most successful 5G smartphones. The figures from Counterpoint Research result in the following best list:
- iPhone 12
- iPhone 12 Pro
- Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra
- Huawei Nova 7
- Huawei P40
- Oppo A72
- Huawei P40 Pro
- Samsung Galaxy Note 20
- Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus
- Oppo Reno 4 SE
Note that some devices are available as both 4G and 5G versions. Of course, these are the versions that support the new cellular standard.
iPhone 12: The success is likely to continue
While the Note 20 Ultra had to quickly vacate its place in the sun, the iPhone 12 could make itself comfortable there. Counterpoint Research anticipates continued high demand in the fourth quarter of 2020 – especially during the Christmas season. Due to the delayed market launch, good sales can also be expected in early 2021.
According to the market researchers, there are three more reasons for the success of the iPhone 12. The demand for 5G smartphones has pent up, especially among Apple users. The decisive impetus was given, above all, in the USA by the wireless service providers – through attractive promotional campaigns under which the iPhone 12 was available at particularly low prices.
In addition, the iPhone 12 is available in 140 countries, while many other 5G smartphones are apparently only available in certain regions. But it is also true that it is simply an excellent device, as we were able to determine ourselves in our iPhone 12 test.
